T.H.E.M.

Founded in 1993, T.H.E.M. (or THEM) exists to promote social interaction among fans of science fiction and fantasy. While we're all fans of the genre, we're more about the people and the socialization than we are about the science fiction. We go out to dinner as a group after meetings, gather at members' homes to watch anime, descend upon movie theaters for showings of interest, play games, and sometimes even go bowling.

THEM meets every Thursday at 5:30 pm (during the Fall and Spring semesters) in the Arizona State University Memorial Union. Any member of the ASU community is welcome to show up.

THEM is an acronym, the meaning of which is not available to the general public; THEMWiki is not cleared to give you this information. Many hypotheses have been posited over the years, though officers and longtime members have consistently refused to deny or corroborate any of them.

THEM has a Constitution; the updating and reworking of this document is theoretically why this Wiki exists in the first place.

Organization

THEM is, in intent, a chaptered organization, with an umbrella group with many chapters throughout the world. There are arguably three groups:

THEM Incorporated: the corporate entity that is the "umbrella group" mentioned above.
THEM ASU, the chapter based at Arizona State University
THEM Anime, the international offshoot primarily concerned with the anime review website.

In practice, THEM Inc and THEM ASU are largely the same group of people, with THEM Inc handling the corporate and constitutional aspects of the club, and THEM ASU handling actual meetings and events. THEM Anime is, in practice, almost entirely separate from the other groups, with a crossover of less than five members, and indeed, no centralized organization to speak of outside the Internet.

THEM Incorporated has a board of members? that generally includes co-founder Dave and past and present officers of THEM ASU.

THEM ASU has three elected officers at any time: the Ruling Junta, comprised of the Faithful Lackey, the Crazed Scribbler, and the Money-Grubbing Slime. All of them must be active ASU students, due to university policy. There are also numerous SIGs and Cartels led by chairpersons and leaders who volunteer or are appointed to the position.
